Torchlight 2 is almost everything we could've asked for in a classic-style ARPG. This is pure PC gaming comfort food: endless, satisfying hack-and-slash combat on randomly generated levels, four classes with powerful abilities, tons of great loot, seamless co-op play, a colorful art style, and a fantastic soundtrack. A year ago, we'd expected to see Diablo 3 occupying this spot, but in this case the traditional formula for hack-and-slash (as well as a refreshing lack of DRM limitations and real money) has proven why we all found it so powerfully enduring in the first place.
Chief Criticisms: Story's weak; doesn't do a whole lot that's new.
