Since 1975 unified Jerusalem has been the largest city in Israel. In the 1860s the first neighborhoods were built outside the walls of the Old City. Many of these, including Yemin Moshe and Mishkenot Shaanannim, have been rebuilt. Prominent Arab neighborhoods include Bait Hanina and Bait Safafa.
