The Cartoon Art Museum is pleased to announce its Shelter-In-Place Fundraising Auction. Many comic book artists, graphic novelists, comic strip artists, and animators have contributed artwork from their own archives for this ongoing online auction, which will help us continue our mission to ignite imaginations and foster the next generation of visual storytellers by celebrating the history of cartoon art, its role in society, and its universal appeal.

Approximately 30,000 people visit the Cartoon Art Museum annually to participate in our core programs:
During the past three decades the museum has produced nearly 200 exhibitions on topics ranging from politics and sports to children’s literature and Latino culture. Hundreds of artists from almost every continent have been featured, including Mary Blair, Dan Clowes, Robert Crumb, Will Eisner, Phil Frank, Edward Gorey, Hayao Miyazaki, Spain Rodriguez, Charles Schulz, Ronald Searle, Dr. Seuss, Art Spiegelman, Raina Telgemeier, Garry Trudeau, Morrie Turner, Bill Watterson and many more.
The Museum’s unique permanent collection houses approximately 7,000 pieces, including original Disney animation art from the collection of Mike Glad; historic comic strip art from Charles Schulz (Peanuts), Bill Watterson (Calvin & Hobbes), Walt Kelly (Pogo), George Herriman (Krazy Kat) and Winsor McCay (Little Nemo in Slumberland); political cartoons from Bill Mauldin and Lou Grant; comic book art from Bob Kane, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, and original works by many others.
The Museum also houses a research library containing hard-to-find graphic novels, reference and history books, instruction books, anthologies, and other publications.
The Museum offers classes and workshops for youth and adults, ranging from beginner classes for kids and activities for the entire family to Summer Cartoon Camp, master classes, and private classes for advanced artists.
The Museum engages a broad audience at monthly events, such as Cartoonist IRL (In Real Life) and Toon Talks, as well as presentations, after-hours events, receptions and openings, and a wide range of book signings, lectures, presentations, and panel discussions featuring local, national and international artists who share their talents and experiences with visitors.
In addition to its critically acclaimed exhibitions and collection, the Museum has produced more than thirty catalogs and publications celebrating and examining the diversity of cartoon art in animation, comics, graphic novels, zines, book illustration, and other related topics. Older Cartoon Art Museum publications are available for scholars to study through our library, while some of our more recent catalogs are available for sale in our Store.
