Amazon.com workers started streaming into the online retail giant’s newest tower, the first of its new downtown office complex.

For now, employees will work in the bottom half of the 38-story building, while workers finish the top half. Amazon expects to move into the rest of the building next year.

Amazon, which names its buildings after corporate milestones, has dubbed the tower Doppler. That was the code name of the Echo, the voice-controlled speaker it introduced in 2014.

The building is on a block bounded by Virginia and Lenora streets and Sixth and Seventh avenues. It sits just south of the distinctive giant spheres that will eventually sit at the heart of the new corporate campus.

The company ultimately plans to occupy 10 million square feet downtown, enough room for roughly 50,000 employees.
