THE MILESTONES OF T�RK TELEKOM 9 August 1847 After the first realization of sending and reception of a telegraph message, the first telegraph line was started to install between �stanbul-Edirne. July 1881 In �stanbul, a telephone circuit was established between the Ministry of Post and Telegraph in So�uk�e�me and the Post Office in Yenicami. 23 May 1909 The first manual telephone exchange with the 50 line capacity was established in �stanbul Great Post Office. 4 February 1924 With the Telephone and Telegraph Law numbered 406, General Directorate of Post, telegraph and Telephone was authorized to install and operate telephone network all around Turkey. 11 September 1926 The first Automatic telephone exchange with the 2000 line capacity was put into service in Ankara. 1 September 1929 The first telephone conversation over a telephone circuit between Ankara and �stanbul was realized. 1940 The establishment of two units of Ankara-�stanbul single channel open wire line multiplex systems made the telecommunication more easier. November 1973 The first automatic telex exchange was established. 6 April 1976 By putting the first submarine coaxial cable with 480 total channel into service between Antalya and Catania, the international conversation over multi channels was provided. 23 April 1979 By putting the first satellite eart station into service, the communication over INTELSAT by using the satellites of Atlantical region between Turkey and 13 countries was provided. March 1982 Public Payphones open to domestic and international calls were established. 28 June 1984 Electronic Mail Service was put into service between Ankara, �stanbul, �zmir and Adana. 5 July 1984 The multi access special radio link system connecting a lot of villages to the automatic telephone network over a system was established. 18 December 1984 Turkey's first digital telephone exchange was put into service in Kavakl�dere in Ankara. 10 April 1985 Fiber optic cable increasing channel capacity in communication was installed for the first time beginnig from 37th km. of Ankara-Konya highway. November 1985 The first radio link system was put into service between Ankara and �stanbul.
23 October 1986 Mobile Telephone system was put into service in Ankara and �stanbul and Paging system in Ankara, �stanbul and �zmir.4 March 1987 The first video-conference in Europe over satellite system was realized in Turkey. 15 July 1987 The first fiber optic cable among provinces was installed on the pole between Ayd�n and Denizli December 1988 Cable-TV service has been put into service for the first time in �ankaya in Ankara.

The first Packet Switching Data Network, TURPAK was set up by using DPN modules. X-25, ITI and SNA services were put into use over the network.
21 December 1990 The contract about "TURKSAT National Communication Satellites" was made with the French Firm Aerospatiale. 24 December 1990 With the project EMOS1, the communication via fiber optic submarine cable system between Italy, Greece, Turkey and Middle-East was provided. 1991
Low-capacity digital radio link systems were put into service in order to provide the transmission of exchanges in rural areas 23 February 1994 Turkey met with GSM technology. GSM which knows no limit in communication was put into service firstly for its subscribers in Ankara, �stanbul and �zmir. April 1994 Centrex Telephony Service, which provides all functions of PABX over national telephony network, was put into service 11 August 1994 Turkey's first satellite TURKSAT-1B was launched into the space. 1994 TURMEOS-1 (Turkey's optic cable system of Marmara and Ege region) and TURCYOS (Turkey-North Cyprus submarine fiber optic cable system) were put into service. 24 April 1995 By separating the telecommunication and Postal services in PTT from each other, T�rk Telekom�nikasyon A.�. was founded. 1996 Submarine fiber optic cable system covering Turkey-Italy-Ukraine-Russia (ITUR) was put into service.
1996
Central Collection System was put into service in order to provide the on-line payments of our customers from PTT centers, contracted banks and Turk Telekom Collection Offices.
1996 12 April 1996 No.7 which is a signalling system between exchanges and forms the instrastructure of transferring of voice, data and picture was applied in Turkey. 10 July 1996 Turkey's 2nd satellite T�RKSAT 1C was launched. 1996 Turkey's National Internet Backbone Network (TURNET) was put into service. 7 November 1996 The contract for Eurasiasat joint-venture company was signed between T�rk Telekom and Aerospatiale the firm producing TURKSAT satellites. November 1996 Frame Relay service which enables data transfer at high speed was put into service.
1997 National Academic Web (ULAKNET) Project, connecting all universities in Turkey over TURPAK network, is realized April 1997 In order to use the voice frequency cable network in an optimum manner, digital line multiplexer systems were launched. 1997 KAFOS (Blacksea Fiber Optic System) and TBL (Land Fiber Optic System of Trans Balkan Link) were put into service. 1998 The cash payed card was put into service in Turkey by the name of Global Telephony Card. 27 April 1998 GSM network was transfered to the firms Turkcell and Telsim for 25 years by giving licence. 28 August 1998 In order to spread the internet communication all over Turkey fast and in good quality, the contract about Ttnet National Internet Backbone network was signed. February 1999 In order to provide the PSTN and other narrow band services, access multiplexer systems, working over fiber optic cables, were put into service. June 1999 ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) was put into service in order to provide high speed voice and image communication on
July 1999 Wireless telephony system which provides wireless access to local exchange, was put into service. 2000 Services such as 115, 121, 122, 123, 126, 131, 163 etc., given by operators, were started over Intelligent Voice Reply (IVR).
2000
The satellite TURKSAT-2A will be launched into the space by the beginning of the year 2000.
2000 Cable Internet applications were started on Cable TV.
November 2000 SAY2000 Project, infrastructure of which was provided by T�rk Telekom, was put into use countrywide to enable the daily works of accountancies to be applied on computer and to observe the government accounts daily. 29 January 2000 T�rk Telekom became a joint-stock company, dependent on special law provisions. 11 January 2001 TURKSAT-2A was launched from the Kourou in South America. May 2001 CLIP and CLIR functions were put into service. June 2001 ILSIS Project was realized for enabling the applications of Directorates of Education to be applied on computer and providing them Internet access. 2002 Pilot applications of TQM were started in Yalova and Bal�kesir Telekom Directorates.

Our Company has been a member of ITU (International Telecommunication Union), and on sectoral basis, ITU-R, ITU-T, ITU-D.
March 2002 MERNIS Project, the infrastructure of which was provided by T�rk Telekom, was started in order to realize demographical operations on computer. April 2003 SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) based digital radio systems were put in to service.
October 2003
First trial implementations of Metro Ethernet were started.
December 2003 A joint project with Ministry of Education about connecting 42.500 schools to Internet by using ADSL service was launched.
18 May 2004 MEDTURK Submarine Fiber Optic Cable System between �stanbul-Turkey and Catania (Italy) was put into service.
2004
TT&TIM Communication Services Inc., establihed by the merger of Turk Telekom�s GSM Operator Aycell and ��-T�M, was officially founded as �Avea Communication Services Inc.� on 19 February 2004.
June 2004 Prepaid Card, called TTkart, was put into service.
2004
June 2004 Yalova and Bal�kesir Telekom Directorates were awarded with ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System Certificate. 22 July 2004 T�rksat A.�. was established and started operating apart from T�rk Telekom. 2004 TTIDC, which gives value added services such as Web Hosting, Mail Hosting and Co-location, was established to provide the Internet Data Center needs of public and private institutions. 2004 Point to point DSL service was put into use for providing the point to point data transfers of local offices of public institutions and corporate customers. 2004 High speed Frame Relay and ATM services on TURPAK network, were put into operation in all provinces. 25 January 2005 By the Cabinet Decision, no. 2005/8409, the duty and the responsibility of establishing �E-Government Gateway� was given to T�rk Telekom. February 2005 TTwinet-Wireless Internet Service was put into service in 160 hotspot points such as hotels, airports, shopping centers, cafes, restaurants, exhibition centers, universities etc. 14 November 2005 T�rk Telekom's privatization process was completed and %55 shares of Turk Telekom was sold to Oger Telecoms Joint Venture Group. |
