The
Ascension Island council was originally formed on the
1st November 2002.
Governor, Michael Clancy suspended the Island Council
(Ascension) Ordinance 2002 in May 2007 and has set up
an advisory group which will be consulted on matters
of policy and legislation.
Governor Clancy envisages the group meeting on a monthly
basis probably supplemented by informal meetings with
the Administrator on particular issues. He hopes that
the general public on Ascension will also make their
views known on particular policies and this will be encouraged
by issuing brief policy consultation papers.
The Governor said in April 2007 that he would like to
proceed to an election and form a Council around the
time of April 2008.
