A busy London pavement

There are over seven million people living in London making it the biggest city in Western Europe. Despite its size, many Londoners are lonely and isolated and for all its prosperity three of the five most deprived boroughs in England are in London.

This section looks at some people who maybe socially excluded in London. It also explores ways people who happen to live in the same area can be transformed into a community. Work is being done by central government, local government and voluntary organisations to recognise everyone’s value, regardless of their age, sex, ethnicity or disability.

Find out here what’s being done and what you can do to make sure that everyone benefits from London’s wealth and cultural mix.

If you want to find out about local resources and support groups, your first port of call should be your local borough council. Whether you need practical advice on housing, jobs, transport or local services, someone in your local borough office should be able to point you in the right direction.
