WB Sets Lots of New Release Dates!

The folks over at Warner Bros. have been keeping busy in the last 24 hours setting new release dates for all of their upcoming tentpole and franchise pictures for 2010 and beyond according to Exhibitor Relations.

The biggest one is the finale to J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II scheduled to hit theaters on July 15, 2011, roughly eight months after Part I. At this point, it looks to be going up against Marvel Studios' anticipated superhero supergroup The Avengers.

Two of Warner Bros.' comic book based projects set for 2010 also have been given release dates with DC Comics' Western character Jonah Hex, starring Josh Brolin, getting a release date of August 6, 2010, and Martin Campbell's take on the DC superhero Green Lantern set for release on December 17, 2010.

Two Warner Bros. directors have had the dates set for their next projects with Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic Inception set for a July 16, 2010 release, the same date as Marvel Studios' Thor, and Zack Snyder's recently announced thriller Sucker Punch going for October 8 next year.

Louis (The Incredible Hulk) Letterier's version of the epic Clash of the Titans, starring Sam Worthington, has been set for March 26, 2010.

Lastly, Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, will now open on Christmas Day rather than in November.

Okay. Any word on who has been cast as Green Lantern? Also, do they have a story to work from?

Posted by: acslaterson on February 24, 2009 at 19:35:13

You know WB will push Part 1 to the summer and then release the 2nd a year later. If they don't I won't mind though, that would mean less kids in The Avengers, hahaha. Cool news about Hex and GL, they need to do the latter as a complete sci fi pic in space and not try for the realism TDK crap. It is a guy flying around with a green ring in space for crying out loud!

so Martin Campbell is confirmed? not just in talks

Posted by: ej on February 24, 2009 at 19:39:35

GL needs to stay true to the story, fun but not funny. It doesn't have to be Dark Knight, but it shouldn't be Catwoman either.

I think INCEPTION is just code name for THE DARK KNIGHT SEQUEL... WOULDN"T THAT BE AWESOME AS HELL!????

Posted by: rman on February 24, 2009 at 19:45:22

I thought Seth Rogen was cast as the Green Hornet. What I wanna see is the next Superman movie. Superman returns was awesome. Bryan Singer did a great job putting that film together. It doesnt have to be like the batman movies because it is a whole different character. They are two very separate superheroes with two very separate perspectives on ****.

Posted by: Should of been Lizzy Caplan on February 24, 2009 at 19:52:28

Rman...Seth as Green Hornet, not Green Lantern

Posted by: Sam on February 24, 2009 at 19:57:09

Seth Rogen is playing Green Hornet, but they were talking about Green LANTERN.

Martin Campbell is cofirmed to direct but no story or star other than it will be Hal Jordan and not a mockery of John Stewart with Common.

So I guess there is no next BOND film yet planned?
CASINO ROYALE NOVEMBER 2006
QUANTUM OF SOLACE NOVEMBER 2008 I guess it won't be every 2 years.
There is no Batman 3 even near a plot idea.

What about the MARVIN THE MARTIAN film that is planned where he was to have lead an invasion of Earth but gets trapped and is gift wrapped as a Christmas present? Or is that due this Christmas?

Bond is with Sony remember that.

Inception aka Batman Begins 3? I don't think so. Be patient.

Posted by: rick on February 24, 2009 at 21:01:25

no superman reboot?
when are they planning on rebooting the franchise. Brandon Routh will be 30yrs old. they need to get moving on this. we don't want him to age more. remember what happend with chris reeves in superman iv? he looked too old. Warner.....let get moving

Posted by: clarkpaco on February 24, 2009 at 21:04:17

As far an Nolan and Batman 3, everyone remembers Nolan did "The Prestige" in between Begins and Knight. I think he did it to have a breather then come back to the table with fresh ideas. So its like Mr. FVD said, patients people, patients. I'd rather we get a good movie then another Spidy 3.
Now it Sounds to me like Warner just put Marvel in a bit of a conundrum by putting Harry Potter 7.2 in the same slot as The Avengers. I mean Warner is already filming Harry 7.1/7.2 as we speak, while Marvel is still having some serious casting issues.
Is the script for the avengers even done yet?

Can't wait for GL. Bye the the time we see another Superman movie it will be 20 years from now. You guys got to think this recession is killing us, just look at Marvel. They are pinching pennies on actors and sorts. DC is in the same mold!!!

Yay. Inception comes out on my birthday next year and HP comes out the day before my birthday the year after that!

Posted by: From Hell on February 24, 2009 at 23:11:16

Green Lantern is going to be hard to do...hope they do him justice.....he's probably DC's most important hero...next to the Batman.

Posted by: The First on February 24, 2009 at 23:16:05

OMG!!! NOBODY SAID IT!!
drumroll please.....FFFIIIIRRRSSTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and superman sucks, it doesn't deserve a second chance!

Posted by: Ryan D. on February 24, 2009 at 23:19:27

It'll be interesting to see how many of those they keep, now. Considering Warner Bro's affinity for moving things around last minute, like HP. Sherlock Holmes' move is interesting, though... s'pose those were some serious re-shoots that needed to be done.
