UMO �Ilinden� - PIRIN begins two days of protests in Strasbourg

14/09/2009:
The United Macedonian Organisation �Ilinden� - PIRIN, a political party defending the rights of the Macedonian minority of Bulgaria, will today begin two days of protests in Strasbourg. Today�s demonstration will begin at 2:00pm in front of the European Parliament and will resume on Tuesday 15 September 2009 at 9:00am at the Council of Europe.
The aims of the protests are to raise awareness in the European Parliament of the plight of the unrecognised Macedonian minority of Bulgaria and to oppose the proposed closing of the monitoring of the execution of the 2005 judgement of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in the case of UMO �Ilinden� - PIRIN vs. Bulgaria.

MEMOIR of a Visit to Australia by Macedonian Human Rights Activists from Egej and Pirin

From March 24-31, 2009 in Melbourne, Australia, the Australian Macedonian Human Rights Committee (AMHRC) was privileged to have hosted a visit by Macedonian Human Rights activists from Greece and Bulgaria. Included in this visit were Mr. Natse Parisis and Mr. Dimitri Ioannou, as representatives of the AMHRC�s partner organisation in Greece, Vinozhito, and Mr. Stoyko Stoykov, representing the AMHRC�s partner organisation in Bulgaria, OMO �Ilinden� - PIRIN.

OSCE's HDIM 2008 - Prevention of Torture - Statement of the UMO �Ilinden� - PIRIN

Thank you Mr Moderator.
This morning I would like to make the following statement on physiological torture and intimidation carried out by Bulgarian authorities against members of the United Macedonian Organisation �Ilinden� PIRIN.
As you heard yesterday, in 2005 the European Court of Human Rights ruled that the banning of OMO �Ilinden� PIRIN was a violation of the European Convention on Human Rights. Following the judgment the party tried unsuccessfully to re-register the party in 2006 and 2007.

Today I would like to bring everyone�s attention a case concerning Bulgaria�s refusal to respect the right of freedom of association.
The United Macedonian Organisation �Ilinden� PIRIN is a political party defending the rights of the Macedonian minority in Bulgaria. It was officially registered in 1999. However a year later the party was banned by the Constitutional Court of Bulgaria.
In 2005, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that the banning of the party was a violation of Article 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
