Turbine Technics, Professional design engineering by Neil Key... 'Better By Design'

The Ultimate Two-Stage Turbine System

TURBINE SYSTEMS

TURBINE - Main Power Unit

The TT Turbine Systems are based on reliable and tested units. We build our own Turbine System with in-house machining work, and carefully selected subcontract suppliers. We have been testing a couple of Thrust Engine developments over the past year, as well as our own 'kero start' system designated as VFS. We are now moving into production of a range of Jet Thrust engines, starting with the 'grass rootes' intro package complete with Full Autostart and our own ECU System.

We have been manufacturing our own turbine parts since October 2004... incorporated in Customer and Development engines that have over 200 hours of flying... and with ongoing test and development the TT-Phoenix Turbine was launched in August 2005. With further developments, that have now completed production tests. We have launched a new VFS (Vaporised Fuel Start) version, originally developed for our commercial customer helicopter applications.

The external appearance of the FOD and Starter Casing was not only designed to add style to the appearance of the TT-PHOENIX System... but we have also taken into account ways to maximise airflow into the compressor duct (with some wind tunnel work) whilst providing a sturdy and robust casing, which supports the FOD mesh screening and electric starter. Originally designed in early 2005 for the helicopter system.

The Thrust Jet has also undergone testing in a number of areas to provide a reliable package, with the initial engine launched into the 15-16lb thrust range.

The design of the New Combustion Chamber was primarily aimed at improving the characteristics of the Twin-Stage turbine system... which also incorporates our own second-stage casings. These have allowed us to make the overall installation more compact, but still retaining our original exhaust system, manufactured in-house, and stated by most people who have seen the TT helis in operation as 'The Quietest Turbine Heli System Operating'. Follow 'TURBINE Menu' link to HELICOPTER systems.

JET THRUST TURBINE SYSTEM

We build and test the turbine assemblies which are supplied by a specialist manufacturer whose components we have also used for our Heli-Turbine application for over 2 years. Thrust engines are built also using some of our own developed components... complete with our own manufactured exhaust cone. A 'Power Sport' jet thrust cone is an option that will be made available as a special upgrade. The engines come complete with mounting strap and fittings to install into the Customer's jet plane. Gas start is the standard basic option, with our own VFS as a low cost upgrade coming soon.

The turbine wheels and NGV are purchased as castings. They are then machined. We balance and test the Wheels, including X-Ray and Ultrasonic test. Many components are manufactured to our requirement and drawings.

For The Future... We have enlisted the help of selected jet specialists to help develop our own aircraft installations, and shortly we will also be providing the complete jet package for the 'Budget Flyer' or 'Jet Novice'. This will allow us to provide a better 'low cost' jet flying package.

Also we will be introducing another engine package... a compact engine in the 20-21lb thrust band. Final production parts now completed summer testing. On sale for May 2010.

SPECIALIST MACHINING APPLICATIONS

CNC Machining, using 5-axis machines, allows for more flexibility in production design and the ability to produce small batches as well as test components... without the expense of all the tooling, waxes, and larger quantities involved in casting.

We have also found that in designing wheels, some designs that could not be produced due to restrictions with mould tooling in the casting process could be produced using CNC machines.

AutoStart ECU

The ECU system. It is a microprocessor controlled, digital, turbine management system as well as a safety device to help prevent serious damage to your engine. It calculates the fuel supply to the engine depending on the throttle setting, the exhaust gas temperature and the rpm. The automatic start-up sequence helps you in this critical phase of the engine operation, controlling the fuel flow and the exhaust temperature.

The ECU is a 'Full Authority Digital Engine Control Unit'... a concept seen in full-size engine controllers and management systems.

Ancillary Components

The additional ancillary components supplied include... the electric starter motor, fuel pump, two solenoid control valves, and fuel filter. Oil is also supplied for gearbox systems when a gearbox or complete Helicopter or Turbo-Prop system is supplied.

Currently the starter is a 280BB brushed motor, and our preference for fuel pumps is Hausl. We are currently looking at other options of starter motor systems as a method of improving serviceability in long term use.

ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT

There is not much required in the way of 'additional equipment' as everything that you require, including pipes and fittings are supplied. You only need to supply the ECU battery pack, Turbine Fuel and Oil Mix, and after the final stages of assembly you are ready to 'Start the Turbine' ... and we supply a Detailed Operator Manual for the operation of the Turbine and TACU ECU, and also including Gearbox details and general running and service requirements for Helicopter systems.

WARRANTY: Turbine Technics Turbine Systems come with a full Warranty... which varies for Jet Thrust and Helicopter applications. Please see product pages.
