Nintendo Announces Skylanders SWAP Force Wii U Hardware Bundle

Posted by Thomas Whitehead

Time to swap out that Wii?

Nintendo certainly appears to be gearing up to tempt potential Wii U owners this Holiday, with a variety of bundles joining upcoming releases to try and win over the market. Nintendo of America has now announced another option to tempt gamers in the region, teaming up with Activision to offer a Skylanders SWAP Force option.

This one will have a recommended price of $299.99 and arrives on 15th November; it also includes Nintendo Land, though with that extra game does only provide an 8GB Basic model. The confirmed contents are below.

  • A white Wii U Basic system
  • A Skylanders SWAP Force starter pack that includes:
Skylanders SWAP Force Wii U software
    A Portal of Power
Three Skylanders figures, including Ninja Stealth Elf (one of the Core Skylanders) and two SWAP Force characters: Blast-Zone and an exclusive color shift Washbuckler
  • A collector poster, trading cards and sticker sheets
  • A Nintendo Land game disc

Let us know what you think of this bundle. Are you tempted, and do you think it'll win over many new consumers?

This might be the perfect step on point for me. I've been thinking of getting my 6 year old this game and this works out great! Plus I can save a few dollars for noot buying the Wii version!

Good way to get rid of those 8GB Wii U that nobody wanted.

I was really excited when I first saw this in the Gamestop BF ad a few days ago, until somebody here pointed out to me that it's 8GB.

It's still a good price for parents buying it for their kids, just not as good as 32GB.

I can imagine this will be under a few tress Xmas morning.

Wow, this is an awesome bundle for the families out there! I mean, so is the Mario + Luigi bundle, but this might be more attractive to the families looking for a reason to upgrade to the "new" Wii.

@MERG Now to convince my wife. When the Zelda bundle came out we just had too many expenses. Now with CHRISTmas coming I think I can swing it. Of course see will say you just want it so I can play it. Sure but if that was truely the case then I would get the Zelda one over this. Plus you can't beat the extra game as well. I don't care about the gig size either as both modles really require much more memory anyways!

@MERG Well there is only one game left I want this year because Batman turned out to be short. Sonic turned out to be bad and still waiting for a sale or two before I pick anything else up so what else am I going to buy lol!

Basic or deluxe is no difference, if you want to go digital you will need an external hard drive anyway. And the deluxe 10 % promotion is crap since digital games are more expensive than physical even with the 10% discount.

Great package for kids (and parents looking for an excuse to upgrade ^^;)

It's definitely something I'd consider if it makes it to Australia. Of course we'd probably end up with a PS4 bundle instead after what happened with Giants here.

I think this is a pretty good deal. As for the Basic system, it shouldn't matter too much. You will just need a hard drive a little quicker. Either way you go, you have to pick one up eventually.

All of these bundles = building the install base. You want this game? Why not buy a bundle and save? Nice work with follow through on the plan, Nintendo!

This is a great idea to tempt kids who are hardcore skylanders but still haven't made the jump (since the game is in practically every platform). Let's hope it sells!

I just wanted to point out you're not really missing out on much with a Basic, even with a 32gb model, you're going to need to buy an external hard drive eventually. I have a Basic, and I dont regret it. The Wii U was meant to be white, anyways.

I love my Wii U in black. It hides below my TV and with a wave of a hand it jumps to life and entertains all whom enter my abode.

Holiday strategy: Awesome Mario game + BUNDLES + Wii Nostalgia (Wii Fit U, Wii Sports, Wii U Party)

Just one thing missing: Pervasive Advertising

Let's see it, Nintendo. It's all-in time.

Also, love that Nintendo Land is still included in this bundle.
Put a Wii U Party bundle on the side, dig out the old Wii remotes and it will make a great family vacation.

why does the white Wii U HAVE to be basic? they can make a premium white Wii U, doesn't bother me as i prefer the black version

I'm glad to see Nintendo making more bundles, I don't care for Skylander's but alot of other people do so that will increase the system's sales, and it's great that it also comes with Nintendo Land as well. Though I wish Nintendo would scrap the 8GB "Basic" system and only use the 32GB system. The "Basic" set isn't much cheaper despite having alot less room.

Smart value. Wish Nintendo Land was included in every bundle.

This just reinforces to me how pivotal Nintendo platforms are to the Skylanders brand.

Really tempting.... maybe I will get a wii U finally.

But its only 8GB :<

I wonder if eshop VC games can be moved to an external storage? If yes, then problem solved :>

I do sincerely hope that this whole Skylanders "thing" blows past, leaving me untouched by it, by its end.

Anyone who thinks this is a good deal is wrong. The basic just dance and the basic Wii party u bundles all include Nintendo land same as this, but they also include a Wii mote plus and a sensor bar which this package does not and they are the same price.
My final dampener is I read this games crashes a lot on Wii U. Sorry for all the optimistic news.

This is nice bundle, kids will love it for sure. Why do all people believe basic model is worse? I bought new one for 149 euro and it works without any problem. Do you think 32 GB model is enough for e-shop games? OK, so let's imagine you buy e.g. Lego City, Just Dance and NBA 2K13.... it's just 54 GB... so you'll need external USB HDD anyway... no matter which version you have.
