ABSTRACT
The article reports on the foreign military assistance sought by Zairian President Mobutu Sese Seko to deal with the invasion of Angola-based Katangese rebels in the Shaba region in Zaire. Military aid came from Morocco, sending 1,500 troops; China, contributing supplies; Egypt, where Egyptian President Anwar Sadat sent a military fact-finding team; and, from Sudan. The author observed that Zaire's allies found the Katangese invasion threatening because the rebels were clearly trained by the Angolans and the Cubans, with support of the Soviet Union.
