From the pictures, it does not look like 640 has a front-facing camera. And at this price point, 640 XL is much more interesting. Exactly. Am ready to buy 500 plus Gb too. But still there is no single manufacturer. I don't have laptop and I need to stand in court for two- 5 hours, then how can I stand for that long. But if I have SD cards with maximum memory support ( but in low end like Lumia 435) its easy to carry with me. I always use shirts with button pockets ( I specially orders to stitch like that so so that no one Robs me and also nothing will fall even if am very uncared / careless). Why to buy Flagship smartphones if we don't use unnecessary apps or features. I thought alot, thought to buy ₹20000 phone. But due to financial problem I bought nokia c6-00. ₹14000. Tried to download music ( mainly from youtube). But there is no app. More over after two years it was damaged and sold for just ₹1450. I felt sad and keep away from smartphones for 11-12 months. Then on lit of research I bought Lumia 520 for 7260 only. But am fully happy. Now am waiting for 250 plus SD card release. Then I will buy latest low end Lumia to get all I want. ( because windows OS support upto 500 plus cards. ( may be more with Windows 10) But yes I need front camera too like Lumia 735, but not now because I don't have Skype users much. But in a year or so I will get atleast 15 or more. So I I WILL buy latest mid range at that time not now. Reply
That's not always strictly true, especially for those that travel. It also doesn't factor in areas that have poor coverage, with weak signal or spotty LTE, limited data plans, etc. Cloud storage is still nice for things I don't need locally and/or want to access from different devices easily. But it doesn't entirely supplant local storage.Reply
Nope! many people use SD cards for uninterrupted music / movies. Why you want internet all the to listen you favorite movie / songs. Most people including me just downloads what they want and enjoy enjoy offline. In India internet charges are very high and there is no way data charges comes down in next two years.Reply

The new Lumias look nice, and I'm glad that MS is continuing and refining the Lumia design language. It's also good to see additional confirmation of a Lumia flagship later this year. The 930 was a pretty good device, but it needed a bigger battery and more internal storage. I hope MS fixes this the next time around.Reply
Noticed how no WP device is using A57/A53 cores? Seems that M$'s strategy to focus on one SoC supplier and not make the OS more flexible has backfired in a big way and will cripple WP phone sales just when they were pushing hard with more (smaller sized) partners. WP has less than 3% global share but this year with more partners they could have gained at least half a %. Poor sales for all those new models because of outdated hardware might make it very difficult for M$ to convince those partners to keep using Windows. They keep trying to buy their way in but they need to stop messing up. At least in glasses they are taking it seriously so that opportunity could save them.
Not so sure about that keyboard for mobile devices but might be interesting for the livingroom.Reply
They did announce support for Snapdragon 810 a couple of weeks ago. It was in the press release issued by Qualcomm announcing the official launch of the platform. I guess MS will wait for Windows 10 before they release 64-bit phones.Reply
It's likely not ready yet and that's the problem, they can't really afford mistakes. As for Win 10 , if they would enable ARM desktops and desktop mode for docked mobile devices they could gain a lot of good will and a feature nobody else has yet so it would be nice to see that.It's the only thing that might excite me about Win 10 in mobile.Reply

UI fluidity might not be bad but actual perf is whet the hardware gives you and A53 at same clocks as A7 is plenty faster. And lets not forget that these new devices hit retail only in April so by that time a lot more Android devices with the new SoCs will be in retail.Reply
It's not just UI fluidity. You aren't likely to run into any scenarios where the "slow" hardware holds back one of these devices. For a midrange WP device the 400 has plenty of power. I wish people wouldn't get so caught up in raw specs and instead let the final performance speak for itself.Reply

I'd prefer the 120€ Lumia 530 as a value phone - as far as I can tell pretty much the same thing, with a slightly lower resolution display (so what) and lower resolution camera. If the 640 has a significantly better camera this would be a significant advantage for some people, though.Reply
Just like, as far as I can tell, an i7-powered 17" gaming notebook has identical performance to a same-generation Celeron-equipped 13" model, because both machines have USB 3.0 ports. :P No, the difference isn't that dramatic, but it's a lot more substantial than you claim.
Look at the specs on those devices, compared to the 640 models. The 530 in particular is well behind in all categories, but both it and the 532 are 4" models and therefore are not even in the same class as the 640. Even the outgoing 630 is quite a bit smaller and less well equipped.
The larger 535 is a better comparison than the aforementioned models but it is still outclassed. Does that make them bad devices? No, I think the 535 is a good budget device if the price is right. But the 640 is quite a large step up if you can afford it. A lot of people would be drawn to the (much) higher DPI display or the faster processor, but those things don't sway me as much as the increased battery capacity or GG3.Reply

The Lumia 640 models are an evolution of previous Lumias. They are NOT a copy of the 5C, as your text so obviously implies. Rather, it was the other way around all along as BMNify pointed out. Yep, these Lumias look like Lumias. The only original thing Apple did with the 5C was those HIDEOUS covers.
As far as having a distinctive style, yes they did, and they would continued to if a few others didn't jump on the bandwagon. Don't get me wrong that's fine and I don't really care if others copy the Lumia styling... just as long as people don't make statements implying that the they chased the 5C in terms of styling rather than vice versa.Reply
We weren't really focusing on the colors, so much as the overall design. Even Name99 only brought up colors for humor, as he was saying the design (not the color) looked like the 5C and thus these were like "new 5C colors". The colors themselves weren't important to the discussion. Anyway, my point is that this still physically is very much a Lumia (it looks like a Lumia not an iPod). Any resemblance to the 5C is the result of the 5C mirroring that design and not the other way around.Reply
