Ford Motor Co. overtook its Detroit neighbor and chief rival General Motors to become America’s largest carmaker by revenue for the first time since 2010—and just the second time in the history of the Fortune 500. Its indomitable F-series trucks were the biggest driver of revenue, and—if its $500 million investment in electric truck maker Rivian and in-house development of an electric F-150 are any indication—it plans for that to be the case for many years to come. CEO Jim Hackett, now two years on the job, has been criticized by investors for being slow to roll out a restructuring of Ford’s workforce and production—a bullet GM bit in 2018.
