A new version of ONLYOFFICE, an open-source productivity suite for Windows, macOS, and Linux, is available to download.

ONLYOFFICE 7.5 includes the usual grab-bag of improvements across its 4 core components (document editor, spreadsheet app, presentation maker, and form creator) plus, more excitingly, a brand new PDF editor.

Yes, the productivity suite that likes to shout, has something new to shout about!

The ONLYOFFICE PDF Editor supports annotations, form filling, text comments, and drawing (see screenshot). It also shows PDF page thumbnails, can pull out headings, and makes it easy to ‘find’ text within PDFs (case sensitive and whole word rules available).

ONLYOFFICE now provides a PDF editor

I will note that the PDF editor doesn’t have its own icon/entry in the sidebar of the main ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editor app, so you’ll need to choose to open a PDF with ONLYOFFICE using the file manager. This will open it in the new PDF editor from where… you can do what you need.

Notable improvements in ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors 7.5 include:

  • Interface scaling options over 200%
  • Warning if closing app with multiple files open
  • SVG image support
  • Access popular symbols from insert symbol menu
  • Open password protected files
  • Support for screen readers (beta)

With the following new changes in each specific component:

  • Automatic hyphenation (Document)
  • Smart paragraph selection (Document)
  • Zoom out keyboard shortcut disabled (Document)
  • Keep applied CSV delimiter (Spreadsheet)
  • Trace Precedents & Trace Dependents options (Spreadsheet)
  • Improved pivot tables (Spreadsheet)
  • SORTBY formula (Spreadsheet)
  • Morph transition (Presentation)
  • SmartArt insertion through slide placeholder (Presentation)
  • Improved right toolbar appearance (Form)

Finally security fixes for vulnerabilities that allowed reading data from memory when converting DOC to DOCX, and adding third party images to document when converting HTML to DOCX.

Download ONLYOFFICE 7.5

You can download ONLYOFFICE 7.5 from the official website, with installers provided for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Linux builds are available in RPM (for Fedora and openSUSE users) and DEB for users of Ubuntu and Debian – which requires this disclaimer:

In Ubuntu 23.10 you can’t install debs by double-clicking on them so you’ll need to install a GUI tool like Gdebi or use the command-line to install them.

Additionally, Snap, Flatpak and AppImage builds of ONLYOFFICE are available as well but these have not been updated to v7.5 the time I write this.

If you’re looking for a free, open-source, and feature-packed office suite for Linux then ONLYOFFICE is worth evaluating, especially if you’ve already tried LibreOffice and found it doesn’t quite suit your workflow.
