John was an actor and director, best known for performing in Love Streams, The Dirty Dozen and Rosemary's Baby. His role in The Dirty Dozen earned him one of his three Academy Award nominations (Best Supporting Actor). He was also nominated for A Woman Under the Influence (Best Director) and Faces (Best Writing).
He passed away at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on 3 Feb 1989.[3] John was survived by his wife and three sons.[4]
John is buried at the Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles.[5]
