The result of the discussion was: Deleted as G7 by Fastily (non-admin closure) * Pppery * it has begun... 03:47, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: the template should be a redirect, then all parameters are passed TerraCyprus (talk) 23:16, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominated for speedy as G8. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 01:56, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Watson Standard boilers[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 13:24, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The articles in this category are about locomotives (not boilers). Note: Subject to the outcome of this CFD I intend to do a further CFD for the subcategories. Note: I'm also wondering whether these categories should be deleted - as we don't normally categorize articles about types of locomotives by what boiler some of them had for some of the time (it would be a bit like putting Boeing 747 in a category for the RB211). DexDor (talk) 21:37, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Note: for "deleted" read "listified into the relevant article (which is currently text on a category page)". DexDor (talk) 07:34, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
What would be the advantage of that name? I think the things-with-characteristic wording makes it's easier to see at a glance what the things in the category are. DexDor (talk) 07:34, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Rename It's definitely better than the current name and is the one with support below so I don't want to hold up the nom. RevelationDirect (talk) 02:52, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Question I see a couple larger issues with this tree though: the small subcats for each model would be better in a list in the main article. but that main article, Category:A.G. Watson locomotives, is named as a category. Is switching the namespace an issue for a WP:RM or WP:CFD?- RevelationDirect (talk) 23:26, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There are quite a few of these "articles in category space" (go up a level in the category tree). I don't think moving to the correct namespace needs a discussion. I've converted some (e.g. H.M. Beatty) by cut-and-paste as I wasn't sure whether just moving it would cause complications. DexDor (talk) 07:34, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom, for now. But when the subcategories are nominated, deletion per WP:NONDEF will be a serious alternative. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:15, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

Category:Arabian Plate[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 13:35, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary category (contains just the eponymous article and a geography article). We don't have a category like this for e.g. the African Plate. Note: Both articles are already in the parent category (Category:Arabian Peninsula) so no upmerge is needed. For info: The category creator is now blocked. Category:Fallout characters[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 20:12, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT, creator was evidently not aware of this policy before he was blocked. I think merging would be fairly uncontroversial as it only contains one real article. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 19:01, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Swordsmen[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:26, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Propose renaming this and all child categories to a more gender neutral term. I myself was confused whether "swordsmen" applied to both men and women, or male and female characters, as the term "swordswoman" also exists and has a Wiktionary page. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 09:37, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Peterkingiron: I do not deny that they are unusual in real life, but they still exist. Therefore, even one swordswoman would render the title inaccurate as it states it only contains men, hence the change.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 22:14, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Asmodea Oaktree (talk) 14:27, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - the article is Swordsmanship. Oculi (talk) 15:11, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Oculi: Suggesting that the main article name needs to be changed before these categories can be moved amounts to needless bureaucracy. The reverse can be true if it is decided that the name is unfitting.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 19:02, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. --Asmodea Oaktree (talk) 19:58, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – agree that swordsmanship is a skill but seeing swordsmen categories would make me look for swordswomen categories too. Having Category:Swordfighters would mean there was no need for separate men and women categories. It would be different (for each subcat) if it was an activity with two very different ways of doing it depending on gender but I have no evidence of that being the case. --Northernhenge (talk) 23:23, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per MOS:GNL and WP:GNL. If we use crewed instead of manned, then surely we should use swordfighter instead of swordsman. Opalzukor (talk) 12:10, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. Yoshiman6464 ♫🥚 23:40, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 13:25, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename, WP:C2C per everything in Category:City templates by country. This was an alt rename proposal in a speedy discussion. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:48, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 13:25, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: CBS Television Studios has been renamed to CBS Studios to reflect the focus of content production for multiple platforms. Ridwan97 (talk) 09:12, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 13:24, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename per actual content, these aren't rebellions in the modern country of Armenia, but Armenian rebellions in the Ottoman Empire. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:34, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: keep. (non-admin closure) Asmodea Oaktree (talk) 23:18, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The article itself has been renamed to remove "Republic", likely to make the title concise, so I think the category should follow suit. Love of Corey (talk) 09:56, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Fix capitalization per Category:Bengali language movement activists and reposition "Female". Alternatively, upmerge to Category:Bengali language movement activists if not thought to be a significant intersection of sex and activity. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:07, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Prefer merge per WP:OCEGRS as an unrelated intersection with gender, otherwise rename per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:58, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge. I agree with Marcocapelle on the need to improve *if* kept and the preference to merge, as nondefining. gidonb (talk) 14:48, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to both parents.– Fayenatic London 21:04, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Not sure why it is hyphenated. I've never seen "CRM-software" hyphenated before. Compare with Category:CRM software companies, for example. B (talk) 14:26, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Relief workers in Noakhali[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:28, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete, based on reading of the articles this does not seem to be a defining characteristic. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:12, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Keep: Noakhali genocide was an internationally recognized incident. Many eminent people from all over British India went there for rescuing the forcibly converted victims and providing food & shelter to the survivors whose homes were destroyed and had become refugees. Some of the relief workers wrote memoirs on their experiences which were later published as books. However, the fact that they went for relief work may not have been described properly in their individual articles. In such case, their individual articles could be updated, rather than deleting the category. BengaliHindu (talk) 12:56, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Even if some information about this topic would be added to the biography articles, would it really define these persons? Marcocapelle (talk) 21:24, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, MER-C 09:21, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per NONDEF. The category text ("The page contains the list of people who took part in relief work after the Noakhali riots ...") and that it's been added to articles (e.g. Mahatma Gandhi) that don't mention it suggest a misunderstanding of categorization. DexDor (talk) 20:20, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete We usually see WP:PERFCAT with actors and soldiers, but this is one for relief workers. Not defining and would create category clutter if we grouped them for every hurricane, civil disorder, etc. RevelationDirect (talk) 23:29, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Listify in main article. I checked 3 articles and only in the third Ashoka Gupta did I find any explicit mention of the riots. This has the feel of a WP:PERFCAT. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:03, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 13:26, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: To distinguish the two categories from Category:WikiProject South America and Category:WikiProject Central America respectively—this at the moment causes two category cycles. Renaming would make it similar to Category:North America-related WikiProjects. —andrybak (talk) 20:40, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Both These are very well developed Islamic articles and they don't seem to emphasize either: for Ahl al-Kisa, 1 in the lede, 3 mention it in passing, and 1 not at all; for Ahl al-Bayt it's 2, 4, 6. RevelationDirect (talk) 23:48, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 19:44, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Cooking and food preparation may not be perfect synonyms, but the members of either category can be fairly called "cooking tools" or "food preparation utensils". For consistency with the sister categories I recommend we up-merge to Category:Japanese food preparation utensils. BenKuykendall (talk) 18:06, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Science Adventure. (non-admin closure) Asmodea Oaktree (talk) 16:35, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT: The category contains only two items, of which one, Anonymous;Code, is an unreleased game not planned to be released until about one year from now. If the SVN sub-series does grow, it will still be years until we have even a third article. As such, it makes sense to upmerge to the category for the parent series. The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 13:36, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The category contains the main article The Mammoth Trilogy and three redirects (the names of the books) to the same article. The article is already properly categorized so no merging would be required. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:09, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
