LG UK celebrates cutting-edge innovation and a new design concept for 2012 at Mobile World Congress

Today at Mobile World Congress (MWC), LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics, revealed its collection of must-have smartphones that combine style, design and market-leading innovation. On show was LG’s first smartphone with a quad-core processor for seamless multi-tasking and the new L-Style range of chic Android smartphones, both set for UK releases in 2012. Also on show were demonstrations of the latest LTE technology, providing a glimpse of the unparalleled connectivity set to arrive in the UK over the coming months.

LG Optimus 4X HD, LG’s quad-core processor smartphone
LG continues to deliver breakthrough smartphone innovation into 2012 with the launch of its new, high performance model – the Optimus 4X HD.

LG Optimus 4X HD Mobile Phone
One of the world’s first HD quad-core smartphones, the Optimus 4X HD combines NVIDIA’s latest 1.5GHz Tegra 3 processor with True HD IPS display. With PC-like performance in the palm of their hand, users will benefit from seamless multi-tasking and lightning-fast web browsing.

The Tegra 3 processor is the world’s only 4-PLUS-1™ quad-core mobile processor designed for high-level multimedia performance that also utilises a fifth battery-saver core to handle less demanding tasks. What’s more, the enhanced 2000mAh battery ensures users will be able to work, browse and game for longer.

When running at full speed, the 12-core graphics processing unit (GPU) in Tegra 3 delivers a visually rich experience and console-quality game playability, bringing you closer than ever to the action.

Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the LG Optimus 4X HD is equipped with a True HD IPS display for the finest viewing experience with high resolution, all packaged in a beautiful 8.9mm thick, prism-edged design.

Photo enthusiasts can capture all their images on the 8 megapixel BSI (Backside Illumination) Sensor camera with LED flash and then store photos with the 16 GB internal memory.

Steve Gater, CE Consumer Marketing Director said, “In 2012, LG has been sure to reinforce its commitment to cutting edge technology and innovation. We’re delighted to be bringing one of the first quad-core smartphones to the UK and to provide consumers with groundbreaking speed and power in the palm of their hand.”

The LG Optimus 4X HD will initially launch in Korea and will be available in UK later in the year.

LG’s L-Style: Harmonising style and substance
LG’s L-Style range introduces an all new design ethos for 2012. L-Style embraces a set of design features that will be incorporated throughout the range. Reflecting LG’s longstanding design heritage, with handsets such as the Chocolate and multiple collaborations with Prada, L-Style will provide the ultimate in style and substance. Featuring a consistent design DNA that runs throughout the entire range, the L-Style offers timeless design to ensure users stand out from the crowd.

LG Optimus L Series Mobile Phones

Each of the L-Style smartphones is designed using chic and simple style elements. These include a modern square finish that is both visually impactful and comfortable to hold. The handsets are finished with a harmony of cool metallic accents and soft leather and feature LG’s unique floating mass technology, optically enhancing their thinness. This ethos of minimalist design is continued through the neat and clutter-free button arrangements for effortless usability.

The L-Style range, which launches at MWC with three handsets, the Optimus L3, Optimus L5 and Optimus L7, offers not only great design but also impressive technology credentials. The LG Optimus L7, the largest in the range, boasts a 4.3” wide display, advanced camera features, including a 0.5sec Auto Focus, and a sleek 8.8mm body.

“Great style and design has always been central to LG’s mobile offering,” said Steve Gater, CE Consumer Marketing Director, “with L-Style we believe we have developed a truly unique identity that represents the next step in LG design.”

LG Optimus LTE
A key focus for LG globally in 2012 is the development of LTE technology. LG launched the first LTE phone in the US in May 2011 and is now delivering significant growth in LTE sales in Korea, Japan, the USA and Canada. This expertise and pedigree is allowing LG to position itself positively with all the major UK and European operators.

LG Optimus Vu and LTE Phones
Steve Gater, CE Consumer Marketing Director added, “LG is a leading player in the development and commercialisation of LTE technology. With 23% of all the patents in the field of LTE and UK operators starting to prepare themselves for the arrival of 4G networks in the coming months, LG is perfectly placed to ensure they are able to make the most this opportunity.”

At MWC, LG was proud to demonstrate its latest additions to the LTE range, the LG Optimus Vu: and LTE Tag (both due to launch in Korea later this year).

Equipped with LG’s IPS display technology, the Optimus Vu: offers a unique combination of tablet-like viewing with smartphone portability. Running on a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor and with a large 5” display, the Optimus Vu: is a multimedia fan’s dream device.

The Optimus LTE Tag is named after its unique new feature, LG Tag+, which uses NFC (Near Field Communication) to communicate with special stickers or “tags” that can be programmed to automatically change the phone’s settings.

Swiping a tag upon entering the office could put the Optimus LTE Tag in silent mode and activate Wi-Fi or a tag on the car dashboard could be programmed to turn on Bluetooth, GPS and raise the volume.
Although only scheduled for Korean release, LG’s expertise and experience in LTE and NFC technology means it is perfectly placed to successfully launch these features in the UK.
