Samsung Craft, the world’s first 4G LTE phone, now available at MetroPCS

MetroPCS has kept its promise to become North America’s first operator to offer 4G LTE services.

Today, the company went live with its LTE network in Las Vegas.

MetroPCS has teamed up with Samsung for the LTE launch. The South Korean company is providing not only the LTE infrastructure, but also the Samsung Craft SCH-r900 – the world’s first LTE phone.

The Craft is now available in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Touted as the “world’s cheapest 4G phone”, the handset is offered free of contract for only $299 (after a $50 mail-in rebate).

The features of Samsung Craft include: 3.3 inch WVGA (480 x 800) AMOLED touchscreen display, sliding QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, GPS, stereo Bluetooth, 3.2MP autofocus camera with flash, and MicroSD card support (up to 32GB). A preinstalled 2GB card that’s offered with the phone includes the latest Star Trek from Paramount Pictures.

MetroPCS currently offers two unlimited 4G LTE plans, at $55 and $60 per month. You can find out more about the LTE offering here.

LTE services should be available later this year, and in early 2011, in other MetroPCS markets.
