Nice it is coming to PC but yeah psn for a single player game no thanks. I've got their first one on gog - also ghosts of Tsushima on steam but only playing single player so no psn. 'Tis a shame.
Like someone else said I've also been building up my gog library even if I already 'own' it elsewhere - get the wishlist going and buy on special for example hollow knight half price this week - bam.

Garry Newman of Facepunch comments on the Nintendo takedown of Garry's Mod content
By reaply, 1 June 2024 at 2:20 am UTC Likes: 4

As someone who has interacted with Garry in the past, he’s a total asshole and I’d even categorize him as narcissist.

That said, I can understand that he’s just trying to avoid legal problems. If Nintendo wants to truly take him down, they would and they’d put him back into poverty with almost
no way to recover. He’s financially protecting himself and whoever works for him. The real problem here is Nintendo. These mods have been around for around two decades and Nintendo ran out of fan games to worry about and are going after the little things. These mods are more than likely rips by teenagers or kids and are now going to be lost to Nintendo.

Now we will start to see more underground hosting and internal trading for mods in games.

Mean while, Wolfenstein ET has had Starwars mods since 2005 and Lucas nor Disney has cried about it.

Selaco is now in Early Access - one of the best shooters I've played in forever
By CyborgZeta, 1 June 2024 at 12:57 am UTC Likes: 1

Honestly, I largely forgot about this game; but since I had donated to their Patreon eons ago, I ended up getting a code for this game. So since it was free in a sense, I gave it a try anyway.

It's not bad. I have it on High settings with a frame limit cap of 60, because the frame rate isn't stable above 60FPS. The instability is maybe a bit worse at frame rates above 60 on OpenGL, but it's difficult to say. Either way, High + 60FPS frame limit on Vulkan or OpenGL appears to be the sweet spot for my PC.

I have a modest setup of an i5-12400 + Arc A770 8GB, also on Kubuntu 24.04, running in 1440p resolution on both of my monitors. Since upgrading to 1440p from 1080p, I generally lock all my games at 60FPS despite have a 165hz gaming monitor. I am perfectly fine playing at 60FPS, and the lower frame rate eases the load on my GPU and keeps the fans from coming on most of the time.

I take responsibility for my mistakes, though, and due to previous industry knowledge I should've known better. Really, I can laugh at myself for this - and I think most people who backed it can, since they gave us the choice to not attach our real names to it and most of us chose that!

I may break my No Early Access rule as well, based on Liam saying Chapter 1 is complete, and Chapter 2 is intended for 1.0. That's plenty of maps to play and the game sounds highly polished. By the time 1.0 releases it may be 2026, who knows...

I was one of the idiots who backed this one... Luckily I only threw in a fiver, but yikes, what an embarrassing mess that whole thing turned out to be! At least people came out of it wiser about Keiji Inafune being a credit-stealing glory-hound (the claims of him having created something he didn't were basically how he duped fans of the sorts of games he was aiming to create a spiritual-successor to).

Lesson learned right there.

I have friends that still can't buy the game due to the regional limitations. But everyone gave themselves a pat on the back after a single tweet and forgot about that immediately.

But hey, it's not like that was the main argument everyone was making, right?

It was the fleshlight they'd throw out after use, "think about the kids" energy.

Personally, I'm glad the games are "unavailable" for my region, not only would I not need to link my PSN account, I'll get to have the game for free! Service Issue and all that.

Wow. This made me think of one of LEGO's earliest games (which I haven't thought of in probably decades at this point), Lego Loco. Which was similar in being a sort of open-ended sandbox where you built towns and various (LEGO) creatures showed up and just kinda moved around and chilled out. Although I think the trains were supposed to be focus.

I'm so pleased that you mentioned the train system, as that's how I first encountered Selaco, and it's such a delightful feature. I'll have to pick the game up soon, though I've got plenty on my plate as is, particularly Ghost of Tsushima and the recently released Nine Sols (Highly recommend fans of Hollow Knight, Sekiro, and 2D platformers check it out, it's by Red Candle, the studio behind Devotion and Detention!)

It appears that Sony didn't learn anything from the Helldivers drama. Requiring to login for a single player game is plain stupid and should be boycotted to hell.

The part I find exceptionally funny about this is that the likely to be godawful Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team, which got announced for PC during this same Sony event, and yet it managed to escape requiring a PSN account. Now granted, Konami is publishing this one, rather than it being Sony backed, but still. I'm glad that I'm lucky enough to live in a country that Sony accepts money from, but it's frustrating that they've clearly chosen to stick with this approach to boosting PSN numbers, presumably to look nice on some graph during an investor call.

Quoting: slaapliedjeHa, yeah, they call it the 'Game porting toolkit' and I put that in quotes because it's not really porting the game, but is more like how Wine works... literally being based on Crossover/Wine. Though I'm assuming it mixes Rosetta in there for some of the CPU translation layer. I'm not sure how much of that is the open source stuff from Wine, or how much is just Apple code though...

It also can't be used for any actual released games; it's for internal demonstration purposes only.

Quoting: slaapliedjeIt is also what they call the newer one that's x86_64 to ARM, which is why they dropped 32bit x86 stuff. It doesn't translate 32bit software over.
I did not know that! Thanks for the info. I haven't been a Mac user for a loooooong time now, so I haven't kept up; When I last was, the original Rosetta was still current!
